Upcoming Storm Preparation Training

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Would you please help our “Eye of the Storm” subcommittee, get this critical information out to the community, organizations and the LBPVB members about the upcoming free May 21st community training “Map Your Neighborhood”.

We will have nationally recognized trainer LuAn Johnson, PhD, at the Ocean Park Fire Station, Wednesday, May 21st from 1 - 3:00 PM,  to help neighbors learn how to prepare for and effectively respond during the first hours following a disater.  The December winter storm made us all very aware of how busy the fire and police departments can become during a crisis.  Thus, first response can take place at the local neighborhood, walking level. The workshop will teach people how to prepare, and make the critical connection to fire and police departments. Fire Chief Jacob Brundage and Sheriff John Didion will also participate.

LuAn is the Public Education Program Manager for the Washington State Emergency Management Department. She created her model, “Map Your Neighborhood”,  following analyzing responses to the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake in San Francisco and the 2001 Nisqually Earthquake in Washington.  She has worked with neighborhoods in 16 states across the country.

I have attached a poster for the May 21st meeting to post and announce in upcoming meetings.  We have our subcommittee members signed up, but there is room for about 40 additional people.  We are seeking your assistance to inform our community about this opportunity and help us to achieve a full registration.

Interested persons can register for the free three hour session by responding to me here on email or calling 665 2368.

Thank you,
