What the heck is a White Elephant After Hours Social?
Most of all, it’s a chance for the business community to get together and have some fun. White Elephant gifts are usually gag gifts or items you want to re-gift. Don’t take this too seriously! We’ll have a few extras on hand so don’t let deciding on a gift keep you from joining the fun!
Here’s how the exchange works: Everyone draws a number. To start, the person with #1 picks out a gift, opens it so all can see what it is. Then the person with #2 gets to “steal” any unwrapped gift or chose from those not yet opened. Then person #3 gets to “steal” any already opened gift or chose one of the ones still unopened. And so it continues. If someone steals your gift, you can steal someone else’s gift, or choose an unopened gift. Note: A gift can only be “stolen” once during a turn and once a gift has had 3 “owners” the 3rd owner of a gift gets to keep it; it can’t be stolen again.
After the last turn, the person who started (since he didn’t get a chance at the beginning) can put back the gift and “steal”. Ruth Ann may decide to give everyone one more turn…
