Thanksgiving Dinner at the Long Beach Elks (Joint Project)

PACE and the Long Beach Elks have teamed up to provide Thanksgiving Dinner to the Community. PACE will be providing kitchen staff on a volunteer basis. The Elks will be providing the facility, food and clean up staff. All donations received will benefit PACE Senior Services Programs. Dinner will be served between 1:00 and 5:00 Thanksgiving Day. Cooking will begin early and we plan to have a blast!

At this time we are still looking for volunteers for kitchen help and donations of food. A volunteer sign up sheet is located in the Administrative Office. Please stop by and sign up to join the fun.

Shoeboxes of Joy Holiday Project

in-need-of-a-shoe-box.docbusiness-flyer.doc

PACE Senior Services will be collecting “Shoeboxes of Joy” for our Holiday Project between now and December 10, 2008. We are also accepting individual items to put in shoeboxes until December 5, 2008. Collection sites will be the Ilwaco admin office and nutrition site. I am hopeful that we will be adding collection sites in Long Beach, Ocean Park, and Raymond over the next few days. If you know of a person that would benefit from this project please let us know. All elderly and disabled in need are eligible to receive a shoebox, they do not need to be a PACE Client.

If you have time to volunteer to take the flyers out and distribute them to the community, please let me know. Diane MacMaster has an agreement with Surf Pines to store the items collected and place to put them together and has already begun collecting boxes for us to fill. Needed items are listed on the flyers.

PACE will be delivering the boxes and is accepting volunteers for putting boxes together, creating route lists, and delivery drivers. This project is what dreams are made of, just think about how wonderful the elderly/disabled will feel when someone remembers them during the Holidays. Help us make their Day.

Raymond Federal Credit Union Annual Auction

Raymond Federal Credit Union has come by and begun collecting items for their annual auction. We have 3 Afghans and a doll for them. They are looking to borrow an easel to display a donated painting. If you have one that they could borrow, let either Marjie or I know (360-642-4300) and we will pick it up and deliver it to them. Also any other items that you may have to donate for the auction would be welcome. They will come by the PACE admin office by the end of the week to pick up the donated items.

PACE is very grateful for the effort that Raymond Federal Credit Union puts into this auction every year and encourages everyone to participate if they can. Thank you Raymond Federal Credit Union!

2008 Thanksgiving Community Dinner

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

We are finalizing our 3rd annual “2008 Thanksgiving Community Dinner” to be held at the Inn at Harbour Village in Ilwaco.  We intend to make this an extra special day for those who have been hit by the economy and finding it even more difficult to make ends meet.  This is a FREE, COMMUNITY WIDE event.  The success of this day is based on the incredible amount of donations, volunteers and communication that goes into this event.

Attached is the information in both a PDF file (complete) and a Text file (very limited information) that spells out the day.  We work hard to prepare everything from scratch; offer to-go plates for shut-ins; provide a nice, decorated environment and encourage fellowship; offer live music; offer transportation to those in need and ensure everyone knows that are welcomed and appreciated.  This is done with 100% donations and volunteers.

Last year we prepared and served meals to over 135 people AND created and additional 250 meals for PACE (meals on wheels) to be frozen and delivered after the Holiday.  With donations being down this year, PACE is in need of donations and assistance and this event will contribute to their needs.

We are asking for any support you may be able to give on ANY level (financial, donation of items, volunteer and definitely, helping to communicate this to those in need or who may want to join us).

You will see this event advertised in the paper, on local reader-boards and posted flyers.  Please do help in telling others about this event – either verbally or by helping to post flyers or emailing friends and family.

Our best to you and YOUR family this Holiday Season as we celebrate with ours.
We Hope to see you.

JUNKYARD JANE Saturday, November 29

JUNKYARD JANE
Kickin’ It in Astoria!
Saturday, November 29
Starting at 8 PM
Astoria Events Center

This four-headed love child named Junkyard Jane rose by night in the tide flats of Tacoma, Washington, from a deadly mephitic brew of blues, swamp gas, rockabilly, old engine parts, country, motor oil, folk, funk and used kitty litter. Like all true originals, they display a Creole blend of influences that they affectionately call “Swampabilly Roots Music”.

With five critically acclaimed, all original CD’s under their belt and over 1000 live performances since their 1997 debut, the band is still going strong.

Junkyard Jane, a BEAM Grant recipient (Benefiting Emerging Artist in Music), was one of only eight groups from a pool of thousands to make the final round at the International Band Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee; and their briefcase full of awards over the years includes the prestigious Washington State BB Award for “Best Band”.

Rooster Hooch, Junkyard Jane’s last release, finds the band coming into their own with raw arrangements, scaled down production and some of their best songwriting to date. Ductape & Sagebrush, showcases a journey into the rootsy, acoustic side of the band; while their third album, Swampabilly Snake Oil Freakshow, serves up a steamin’ plate of corn fed, swampy, jug band blues. JJ’s sophomore effort, Milkin’ the Frog, was voted BB Award winner for “Best Northwest Recording” and features all original music as does the debut CD Washboard Highway, which was named one of the top 10 NW recordings by KPLU radio.

This gutsy, fun and irreverent band is now coming to Astoria to perform at the Astoria Events Center located downtown at 9th and Commercial.  Tickets are $6 at the door.  For more information email fo@spelvin.com or call Cyndi Mudge at 503-440-7168.
