Counterfeit Alert
We have received an alert regarding another series of counterfeit bills. These surfaced down the coast where merchants in Newport and DePoe Bay received counterfeit $100 bills during the 4th of July weekend. The bill was good quality, the paper was kind of slick, slightly yellow and the serial number was printed with tighter spacing and a slightly different font. It is difficult to tell that it is phony, unless you compare it to another bill.
Please note that there are additional tools for identifying phony money. This would be a good time for everyone to review the characteristics of US currency. Click on http://www.moneyfactory.gov/newmoney/main.cfm/currency/interactiveNotes. This site has an educational section on currency.
And don’t forget that Jerry Phillips, Risk Manager for The Bank of the Pacific, has kindly offered to talk with any of you who have specific issues in this regard. You may contact Mr. Phillips at: jphillips@thebankofpacific.com or 642-1088, which is his direct line. In addition, The Bank of the Pacific can provide you with brochures on counterfeit money.
Thank you,
Una
