The City of Long Beach and Pacific County invite you to an evening of learning.

Who:      Citizens, Decision-makers
What:     A Short Course on Local Planning
Why:      To get a basic understanding of land use planning
Where:   Pacific County new Administration Building
7013 Sandridge Road, Long Beach
When:     Thursday, November 5th, 6:30 to 9:30 PM

Have you ever wondered how land use decisions are made? This short course will cover the following:

  • Legal and practical objectives of planning
  • Citizen participation and the public process
  • Washington’s Growth Management and Shoreline Management Acts
  • Constitutional rights and responsibilities
  • Development tools and techniques
  • Planning and environmental legislation
  • County and Tribal planning issues
  • Annexations

There will be three outstanding teachers/speakers. Normally, this type of education would cost a substantial amount per pupil. However, the Washington Department of Commerce, Washington Cities Insurance Authority, and the Planning Association of Washington have combined resources to provide speakers for this event at no cost to you.

Refreshments will be available.

Election of Officers for 2010

Article VII: Section 4. There shall be five (5) directors. Three of the directorships are to be filled by election from the membership at large for terms of three years, with one directorship to open each year. Two of the directorships are to be filled by Immediate Past-Presidents of the Association for terms of two years each. Whenever there is an unscheduled vacancy in the Board of Directors, the remaining term of the vacant directorship is to be filled by election from the membership at large. Only current members of the Association may be directors.

WFEA & City of Long Beach Event Planners Seminar

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Good Morning all,

I wanted to let all festival and event planners on the Washington and Oregon coast know about this wonderful opportunity coming to Long Beach on Friday October 16th, 2009.  The Washington Festival and Events Association is partnering with the City of Long Beach to host a “SHOW ME THE MONEY, Event Professional Development Seminar”.

I am hoping that all of you will take a brief moment and look over the attached flyer so that you can plan to attend.  There will be a buffet breakfast and lunch as well as raffle items provided by WFEA.   There is also a block of rooms available for those that need lodging accommodations.

Board Meeting, 09/18/09

Long Beach Merchants Association Board Meeting
Friday, September 19, 2009, 8:00 am, Benson’s Restaurant

CALL TO ORDER: Linhart, Scharfe, Hash, Schwartz, Hocking, Holeman.  Guest: Keith Schwartz

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • Motion by Barker-Sayce, 2nd by Holeman, unanimously approved:
    “When spending LBMA funds, LBMA Members are to be given first opportunity to provide the product or service.  If this is not possible, non-member, local businesses receive second opportunity.  If this is not possible, a competitive bid process is recommended.”
  • Motion by Barker-Sayce, 2nd by Holeman, unanimously approved:
    “LBMA representatives are encouraged to engage in a bid process when purchasing products and services.  All purchases in excess of $2500 must be put out for bid.”
  • Jane volunteered to create a Festival Chairs Guide and will work with other Festival Chairs to create, and keep current, handbooks of their respective events.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Business of the year submission from the Long Beach Merchants for the PCEDC
    The Board made anonymous nominations to the Secretary and then directed the Secretary to conduct further nominations, and complete the vote, via email.  The nominees were Active Enterprises, Long Beach Commercial Security and Peninsula Pharmacies.  Active Enterprises is the LBMA Business of the Year 2008.
  • Membership Dues for 2010.  Motion by Barker-Sayce, 2nd Scharfe, unanimously approved:
    “Dues to remain at $75 through 2009 and increase to $85, beginning in January, 2010″
    This now goes to the membership for vote.
  • PayPal for LBMA for online sales of t-shirts, posters, etc.  Discussion without formal action.  Keleigh volunteered to work with the 2010 Treasurer and Event Chairs to accomplish this goal after elections.
  • Visitors Bureau and Independence Day.  Discussion without formal action.
  • Secretary was directed to send, to Festival Chairs, 2009  budget request paperwork and request them to submit requests for 2010 to the Secretary by the October 3rd regular meeting.
